Welcome to Toolakea's Homepage. Originally from England, I emigrated to Australia with my parents and siblings in 1971.We settled in Mackay, a sugar cane growing town in central Queensland where I went to school before coming to Townsville to train as a teacher. While on my second teaching post in Cloncurry I met my wife, Jane-Frances, in 1983. We eloped one weekend to Magnetic Island.
I had a keen interest in kite surfing for a while. No need for actual surf however; just water, wind, kite and board.
My latest passion is remote control aircraft. I gave fuel planes a try but the trip to the field and the expensive crashes has seen me move to electrics and in particular Aerial Photography.You can see my on board videos by clicking on Videos at the top of the page.
I currently work in a great business as an employment consultant assisting mental health jobseekers. While it is often challenging, there is a great feeling when you've been a part of getting someones life back on track.
Before that, I took a job as a courier driver which was quite to my liking. I had the freedom from the office and plenty of exercise. A promotion meant more job security and office environment however.
I worked as school liaison officer/sales rep for an education software company called "Future School" for eighteen months but felt that sales just wasn't for me.
I worked for Telstra for 3 1/2 years. I started as part of a team who drafted plans for new and altered phone network. Then I became the New Estates Coordinator for all of rural Queensland. Working in an office hasn't always been for me.
I spent nine years working for myself as a craftsman potter. I produced domestic products individually hand-made on the potters wheel. Sales were from the studio and local craft markets every week-end.Prior to that, I, like my wife, Jane-Frances, was a primary school teacher, which I did for 10 years, in Tolga, Cloncurry, Magnetic Island, and many short periods at schools throughout the Townsville District.
